"Adventures in Physics: Quantam Circuits" returns to UCI this January 31st from 1-3 pm at the Physical Sciences Lecture Hall (PSLH ) 100. In tribute to John Rosendahl's memory, UCI physics professor Bill Heidbrink and John's surviving wife Linda Halopoff talk about this well institutionalized physics demonstration and lecture. With their collaboration, John Rosendahl, UCI's physical sciences instructional programs director, hatched this exciting physics show, in 1987. One day after this year's commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., UCI political science professor Davin Phoenix and 3rd year poli sci major Parshan Khosravi take up the professor's research on minority executive models, from the mayoral to the presidential level in the U.S. This research is anticipates the cases that President Obama will make in his State of the Union address tonight. The next course that Professor Phoenix will be teaching is, this spring quarter, "Urban Politics."

UCI Earth System Science Professor Michael Prather hones not only in on his contributions to the International Panel on Climate Change, but also on the role of social responsibility among scientists in general. Dr. Laura Mosqueda, geriatrician extraordinaire, (previously at UCI, now with USC's Keck School of Medicine), considers end of life issues raised in Dr. Atul Gawande's recently published "Being Mortal." In lieu of PhD Social Ecology Student Sally Geislar actually appearing on the show to present her research, we announce the upcoming forum at UCI's Crystal Cove on 12/11/14 at 7 pm concerning the Irvine Farmer's Market; the market's relocation to the Mariners parking lot; and its 20 year commemoration. Finally, Stephanie Eng, 3rd year student at UCI gives Ada Lovelace and Grace Hopper their due in the computing discipline. She, along with her computer science colleagues, welcomes middle school and other girls to a coding workshop at UCI 12/13 from 1-3 pm, at the ICS 3rd Floor Computer Lab.
